Giorgio Serci is an award winner guitarist, composer, arranger and lecturer. He has recorded, performed and supported Jools Holland, Shirley Bassey, Basia, David Garrett, Julian Lloyd Webber, Kenny Wheeler, Dr John, Martin Taylor, Sylvain Luc, Nigel Kennedy, Andy Sheppard, Bill Bruford, Paolo Fresu, Harvie S, CBS Orchestra, BBC concert Orchestra and the Philharmonic Berlin amongst others. His has gained a MMus in Composition at Surrey University, and his works blend jazz, classical and world music with evocative melodies, world groves and contemporary jazz harmonies. He is also an active educator working as a Fellow of Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford as well as a columnist ‘iguitarmagazine’ and for Lick Library, giving several master classes in many conservatoires around the world. He has recorded extensively as a bandleader as well as sideman. Giorgio endorses Yamaha guitars and Mark Acoustic amplifiers.

Giorgio Serci was born in San Gavino Monreale, Sardinia, an Italian island in the centre of the Mediterranean Sea, which has been influenced various cultures (including African, Arabic, Spanish, Roman.) Similarly, Giorgio's musical palette has been influenced and enriched by music from all over the world.

He began the study of the guitar as a self-taught at the age of 13. Later, he went on to study classical guitar with Marco Meloni at the "Nuova Accademia" and Jazz in Ravenna, Italy with John Scofield, John Surman and Tony Oxley.

In 1994 he moved to London to study at Goldsmiths College, receiving a Diploma in Jazz and Popular Music (with special commend) and a Diploma in Music Teaching to Adults. He then went on to study composition and arrangement for Jazz Orchestra at the City Lit College with Mark Bassey.

He has arranged music for several projects including the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the BBC, violinist Anete Gaudine, and guitarist Antonio Forcione.

In 1998 recorded his first co-lead CD "Lo Scenario" with Simon Davies.

In 1999 he founded the six piece band "Big Sunflower" and won the International Jazz Award Sant' Anna Arresi, in Italy.

In 2000 Giorgio and the pianist Bob Stuckey recorded the CD "Loch Ness".

He performed with and supported an array of international artists:  Shirley Bassey, Julian Loyd-Webber, Nigel Kennedy, bansuri maestro Ronu Majumdar, Vic Juris, Andy Shepperd, Jason Yarde,  Japanese armonicist Shima Kobayashi and koto player Ryuko Mizutani. Russian violinist Anete Gaudine for whom he arranged various compositions for chamber orchestra.  

Giorgio went to New York to perform and record his own album with Harvie S (aka Swartz), Virginia Mayhew and Allison Miller. This album "New York Sessions" is out with NAIM label.

From 1998 to 2000, Giorgio joined forces with Flamenco guitarist Eduardo Niebla with whom he has toured worldwide and recorded a CD.

In 2001 began collaborating with guitarist Antonio Forcione with whom he performed three years doing successful world tours and a CD, which includes one of Giorgio's compositions "Watercolour" as well as one of his arrangements of Astor Piazzolla's masterpiece "Tango Suite."

In 2002, Giorgio worked with comedian Boothby Graffoe, touring and recording a CD for the BBC with Ross Noble.

In 2003, Giorgio joined the project "Let Freedom Ring" by the Saxophonist Denys Baptiste and played at the North Sea Jazz Festival, London Jazz Festival, Berlin Jazz Festival..

He has done many solo concerts at the Purcell Room and Bolivar Hall as part of the London International Guitar Festival, Sony Jazz Stage, Riga Latvia and the Sage Gateshead for the Global Guitar Night triple bill with guitarist Sylvain Luc and Thomas Leeb.

In 2010 he gained a Masters Degree in Composition at the Surrey University, UK.

Since 2001 he has been working at the "Academy of Contemporary Music" in Guilford, UK as a degree lecturer, author and music editor.  He has written various columns for the Acoustic Magazine¬Ě and most recently for iguitarmag.com and filmed various web lessons with Lick Library.

From 2007 till 2009 he has toured and recorded as well appearing in TV, with violinist David Garrett, featuring in his DVD ‘Live in Berlin’ and his CD ‘Encore’

Since 2009 he has been touring worldwide and recording with Basia. Since 2010 he has teamed up with singer Filomena Campus, for a series of international concerts, a CD and various collaborations including Paolo Fresu and Kenny Wheeler.

Giorgio endorses Yamaha guitars, and Mark Acoustic amplifiers.
